A little about Melissa (SLLS Vice President):
Melissa was born and has lived her entire life in St. Louis, MO. She is an only child, though you'd never know it since she has a large local family and always played with her cousins while growing up. Melissa also single and currently lookin' for love!

Melissa first entered the artistic realm at the ripe age of four years old; when she drew a red horse on a white living room wall! Since that time, she's always had a interest in art and has experimented with a variety of mediums including photography, drawing, ceramics and silversmithing. Melissa still enjoys photography and will occasionally use her Canon AE-1 (which is the same age as her!) to snap photos.

In 2001, Melissa graduated from Maryville University in St. Louis with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design. She currently works as a full-time graphic designer for Murphy & Company.

In addition to Melissa's love of artistic hobbies, she also enjoys traveling, reading, watching a good movie or cooking. She also admits to having a slight obsession with cupcakes!

Due to Melissa's long-time interest in art, the idea of melting glass sounded like fun! She initially got into lampworking on a whim, but now finds it to be her passion! She took her first class with Karen Woodward at Craft Alliance, but is mainly self-taught. Melissa recently took a class with Libby Leuchtmann and will be heading to Port Townsend, WA for a master class with Andrea Guarino in November 2008.

Until recently, Melissa rented torch time at Glasshopper Studio to make her beautiful beads. However, in November 2007 she completed building a studio in her garage and can now torch whenever she likes from the comfort of her own home!

At this time, you can purchase Melissa's work online via her Etsy store and through iCraft. She also participates in several shows a year such as the SLLS's Glass Galore and the Rock 'n Roll Craft Show. In 2008, she'll be participating in her first summer shows including the OLTA Art & Craft Fair as well as some farmers' markets.
